Veterinarians

Dr. Michael Rice
DVM, Owner

A New York State native, Dr. Michael Rice grew up in Rensselaer.  Dr. Rice did his undergraduate studies at Hudson Valley Community College.  He graduated from Ross University with his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2009.  He practiced at a large multi doctor practice outside of Washington D.C. before returning to New York.  Dr. Rice’s professional interests include surgery and ultrasound.

At home Dr. Rice has a large family and working farm.  He and his wife enjoy activities like hiking and camping with their children and two dogs.

Dr. Evelyn Rice
DVM, Owner

Dr. Evelyn Rice grew up in the bay area of California.  She received her Bachelor’s of Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz.  Dr. Evelyn met Dr. Rice at Ross University while studying Veterinary Medicine.  She also graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2009.  Before moving to New York she practiced at a multi doctor equine practice outside of Fredrichsburg, VA. 

In addition to hiking and camping with her children and dogs, Dr. Evelyn Rice enjoys horseback.

Dr. Richard Brower
DVM

Dr. Richard Brower grew up on a dairy farm in Virginia.  He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1981 with a degree in Animal Sciences.  He met Dr. Wendy Kimmel while completing his Veterinary Medicine degree at Cornell University.  Dr. Brower started his career in Connecticut before moving to New York in 1987 where he worked at several practices prior to starting at Miller Animal Hospital in 1996.

Dr. Brower has 3 grown children in addition to horses, cats and goats! He enjoys hiking and gardening.

Dr. Wendy Kimmel Brower
DVM

Dr. Wendy Brower grew up in Western New York.  She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Animal Sciences in 1982.  She met Dr. Richard Brower while completing her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University which she received in 1985.  Dr. Wendy Brower began her career at Miller Animal Hospital in 1991.

Dr. Wendy Brower has 3 grown children and enjoys riding her 4 horses.   She also has 4 cats and 2 goats and enjoys hiking, camping and swimming.

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Kim Broadhead

Kim has been working as a licensed Vet Tech for 31 years!  She graduated from Suny Canton and started her career at the Wynantskill Vet Clinic.  She joined the Miller Animal Hospital 12 years ago.  Kim loves cats and movies.  Kim has Cats and a dog at home along with a beautiful grandson she enjoys spending her time with when away from the clinic.

Veterinary Assistant

Susan Sheffler

Susan has been working in the Veterinarian field for over 30 years!  She has been a part of the Miller Animal Hospital family for 30 years as well.  Susan previously worked on a dairy farm and loves bulldogs, bee keeping and gardening.  Susan has a dog Jake, cat Mayhem and chickens at home.

Mimi Gwynn

Mimi joined the Miller Animal Hospital family 7 years ago.  She started working part time in the Kennel and has since transitioned to working as a veterinarian Assistant.  Mimi is retired from her position as a Public Health Sanitarian worker with Rensselaer County.  Mimi enjoys camping, kayaking and working out.  She stays busy walking her 2 dogs and pet sitting.

Caryn Jackson

Caren joins the Miller Animal Hospital family as a veterinary assistant. She previously owned a boarding facility for dogs and cats and is new to the veterinary field. She enjoys reading, listening to music and watching movies. She also enjoys spending time with her son and dog Ginger.

Seth Rice

Seth has worked as a veterinary assistant for two summers. He is currently in Highschool and enjoys listening to music, playing video games and hanging out with friends. He is currently the proud caretaker of two dogs and 3 cats, all of which are crazy.

Nolani Carter

Nolani is currently a senior biology major (minor in business) at UAlbany. She is passionate about animals and plans to pursue Veterinary school after graduation. She has previously worked for Rover and at Camp Bow Wow where she worked as a camp counselor at doggy daycare. She enjoys watching movies and TV shows in her free time. She is also passionate about dance and has been dancing her whole life. Nolani recently adopted a kitten named Peter Parker.

Lukus Slaver

Lukus joined the Miller Animal Hospital Family in July 2023. Lukus is new to the veterinary field but has spent his whole life surrounded by animals on his parents’ dairy/beef farm. He has a bachelors degree from Utica University in psychobiology and is currently enrolled in Penn Foster program where he is finishing his degree to become a licensed Veterinary Technician. He enjoys cooking, podcasting and going on road trips. He has three cats at home, Esme, Chai and his newest addition Cranberry a blind kitten.

Office Manager

Jen Nizer

Jen joined the Miller Animal Hospital Family about a year ago. Jen has been working in the medical field for over 20 years. Jen enjoys hiking, photography and is a Pilate’s instructor. She has one dog who keeps her very active outside of the office.

Front End Specialist

Sydney McClaine

Sydney has been working in the veterinary field for 2 years and joined the Miller Animal Hospital as a front end specialist.  She is currently attending Hudson Valley Community College. Sydney enjoys art, reading, nature walks and video games. She is passionate about her 2 dogs Quinn and Pepper. If you ask Sydney she will tell you that Pepper the blind and beautiful pup is her soulmate!

Front Desk

Tonia Guyer

Tonia has been working in the Veterinary industry for 25 years!  She started her vet career at Mohawk Hudson Humane Society where she started their now thriving volunteer program.  Tonia joined the Miller Animal Hospital 8 years ago as a veterinarian assistant and has more recently joined our front end staff.   Prior to her time at MHHS, Tonia was the manager of the Towne Tavern.  Tonia enjoys gardening, thrift shopping and yard sales.  Tonia has 3 dogs and many cats to keep her on her toes at home!

Sandi Krick

Sandi started her career as a Veterinary Technician over 30 years ago!  She recently moved back to the area and joined the Miller Animal Hospital Family a year ago.  Sandi enjoys running, hiking, cooking and is always in the process of a DIY home project!  Sandi has 2 children who keep her busy traveling!  Sandi also has 2 dogs and a Bearded Dragon at home.

Joy Gudz

Joy has been working in the veterinary field and joined the Miller Animal Hospital Family  6 years ago. Joy is retired from her position as the Project Manager of NYS Education.  She enjoys horses, reading and Movies!  Joy has a horse, Mule, goats, barn and house kitties along with a Great Pyr at home to keep her plenty busy.
